Purple Peak Retreat are a small and friendly Surfing Lodge and Relaxpackers set 550 metres up on the slope of an extinct volcano. Possibly New Zealand highest boutique hostel with the views to match. Birdsong by day, frog opera by night...this is big sky country

Set on 33 hectares of pasture and native forest on the Banks Peninsula, east of Christchurch. Purple Peaks overlooks Akaroa village, the harbour, and out over the Pacific Ocean. Surrounded by a large native reserve "Hinewai", with over 30 kilometres of stunning walkways, and on the doorstep cows, sheep, and horses at different times.

Purple Peak Retreat have 2 double / 5 dorm beds, and guest facilities include bathrooms, kitchen, lounge, reading lounge, BBQ, pool table, internet, parking, and a cosy log burner fire.

Beautiful private campsites are available. 10 private sites scattered around the property amongst native forest. No sites have facilities but they are beautiful secluded and private. Camping is by donation only. Good Karma well earnt.

Bush cafe operating from mid November to end of April, Hickory Bay for excellent surfing. We have surf equipment available for hire and kayaking trips on Akaroa Harbour discounted for guests. There is a free shuttle to and from Akaroa.
