Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) is New Zealand’s largest transport, technology and social history museum.
You’ll find an extensive collection of transport and technology artefacts telling stories about New Zealand aviation, printing, rail, road transport, steam, telecommunications and trams; changing exhibitions; tram rides; flight simulator; Victorian Village; working pumphouse and beam engine, interactive science area; Araroa Tearooms and more. See New Zealand’s history come to life!
MOTAT is an interactive museum with a focus on creating a fun, visually stimulating environment for its visitors.
MOTAT also has the Walsh Memorial Library. This is a reference library that is open to the public. Charges apply. It has a large range of books relating to transport, technology and social history. It also has a variety of historic and technical information detailing various components of New Zealand history.

MOTAT is a Qualmark endorsed visitor activity.
All activities and exhibitions come as part of your MOTAT admission fee. Admission fee also includes a return tram ride between the two MOTAT sites.
GUIDED TOURS
Guided tours for groups of 10 or more are available on request, and can be adapted to suit your specific interests.
