This is Waitomo's 'Ultimate Adventure'. Abseil 100m into the surreal Lost World, descending slowly bouncing and turning as the mist filtered light gives unreal qualities to the strange plants and formations. The abseil into the Lost World is at least twice the height of any other cave at Waitomo and the beauty of this iconic cavern is unsurpassed.

The decent takes about 30 minutes. Then take a moment to have lunch with us down below before starting on the wet way out! Following lunch in probably the strangest setting you have ever eaten, you’ll head upstream, walking, swimming and climbing through cathedral-size vaults.

See fossil giant oysters, whalebones, and giant flowstone (looks like icing sugar running down the walls). Lots of fun and optional challenges - water jumps; climbs and spiders. Includes an absoluetly fantastic glowworm display.

Emerge several hours later and enjoy a hot shower and well-earned dinner BBQ meal near the cave before heading back to Waitomo. Includes lunch and a BBQ dinner as well as all equipment (helmets; lights; wetsuits; ropes; harnesses; boots etc).

The Waitomo Adventure Centre is open 363 days from 7.00am until 7.00pm - that's every day except Christmas and New Years days. So basically, if you can't see a fat guy with a funny red suit - we're open. All equipment supplied. No experience required. You just need a big smile and attitude!

Yes, you need to be moderately fit (e.g. go bush walking for a day), but the trip is intended for complete novices - all you need is a swimsuit and a smile! Minimum age for children 12years Min weight 40kg. No prior experience necessary. No need to swim - just as long as you're prepared to get fully wet. Water is gentle and flotation is provided by full wetsuit (provided).
