Description
Abseil (rappel) 100m slowly into the Lost World, secured by your guide who abseils alongside. After approximately a 30 minute decent, you embark on your journey back to the surface. The abseil is at least twice the height of any other cave at Waitomo and the beauty of this iconic cavern is unsurpassed.

Imagine yourself freehanging in a massive void...bouncing a bit and turning because of the sheer length of the rope. Look around into upper levels of the cave and you can see giant spagatites (like giant green hands growing out of the walls). Wierd plants struggle to cling to the sheer walls and all the while the roar of the Mangapu river echoes up to you from caverns far below.

One guide looks after 4 people - who all make their unforgettable descent together down through the surreal mists and eventually landing in the base of this massive cavern.

After abseiling into the Lost World tomo (vertical entrance shaft), a dry caving adventure follows as you explore the gigantic vaults of the Mangapu Cave system. Surprisingly gentle, but an amazing trip back to the surface.

 You will climb over massive slabs of rock, a series of ladders, see excellent glowworms and huge flowstone formations.

The minimum age for this trip is 10 years and there is a minimum of 2 participants per trip. Please don’t forget to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing (no jeans). Allow 4 hours for this trip, including at least 2 hours underground. 

Trip departs daily and bookings are essential. Please check-in 30 minutes before scheduled departure.
