Franz Josef Heliservices are 100% locally owned and operated by James and Debbie Scott and have been in operation since 1986, offering scenic helicopter flights and snow landings above the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers.

Heliservices first scenic flights departed from the Fox Glacier Holiday Park in 1986 and the company has worked hard for over 20 years to become a formidable player in helicopter tourism. Owning and operating our own aircraft allows us to offer very competitive pricing and availability. Our versatile fleet of helicopters (Hughes 500 and Eurocopter Squirrels) can accommodate up to 4 and 6 passengers. The company also owns and operates Tekapo Helicopters and Kaikoura Helicopters where you can join a whalewatching tour by helicopter.

Our flight options include the Fox Glacier, Franz Josef Glacier and Tasman Glacier. Also Mount Cook and Mount Tasman - New Zealand’s highest peaks. With bases at Fox Glacier, Franz Josef Glacier, Lake Tekapo and Kaikoura (whalewatching by helicopter), we cover the South Island.

Heliservices is an experienced helicopter flight-seeing company providing visitors with a diverse range of South Island scenic helicopter flights and private charters in some of the most spectacular alpine and coastal regions of New Zealand. We are also the operator of choice for hunters, climbers and ski tour groups wanting to access the back country. Charter flights or transport for film Crew and photographers, including a range of Heli-ski options from Lake Tekapo are also available.

Fox & Franz Josef options include;

Flight 1 – Fox or Franz Josef Glacier including snow landing: Allow 20 minutes
Sweep above Westland National Park as you explore the Fox or Franz Josef Glacier to 6000’ before landing in the snow to enjoy exceptional views of the majestic Southern Alps.

Flight 2 – Fox and Mt Cook including snow landing: Allow 30 minutes
Only available from our Fox Glacier flight centre, explore the majestic Fox Glacier before flying by the sheer west faces of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman. A snow landing provides opportunities to photograph the magnificent scenery

Flight 3 – The Twin Glacier Fox & Franz Josef incl snow landing: Allow 30 minutes
Discover the scenic wonders of both the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers with this scenic flight. Take advantage of the terrific photo opportunities of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman while landed on the snow.

Flight 4 – The Grand Tour including snow landing: Allow 40 minutes
This is the ‘grand-daddy’ of all flights and highly recommended! Explore both glaciers as well as taking in Mount Cook and Tasman. A landing on the snow for some magnificent photo opportunities tops off the flight. As a bonus, weather permitting, we cross the main divide for you to view the Tasman Glacier.

Important Information for Fox Glacier & Franz Josef flights:
• Children aged 12 years or younger fly for half price.
• Children aged 3 years or younger fly for free sitting on adult’s lap.
• All standard flights include a snow landing, subject to weather conditions and at pilot’s discretion.
• Flight duration’s are approximate only and may change at any time subject to weather conditions and at pilot’s discretion.
• Minimum number of 3 adult fares per flight apply.
• Credit Card details are required to secure a flight booking, however customers will not be charged should your flight be cancelled due to weather conditions.

Essential Wear for Snow Landings
• Sunglasses
• Covered shoes (sneakers or trainers are fine) or your hiking boots
• Plenty of film (or memory cards) for your camera
• Clothing - Wear comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for wearing on the snow. Occasionally the temperate can be 5-10 degrees cooler on the snow than it is in the village. Check with our ground-crew if you are unsure of what to wear

Check In Time
Check in time is 20 minutes before your scheduled departure time. This allows time for payment processing and aircraft allocation. If you are part of a large group (10 people or more), then you will need to check in 25 minutes prior to departure.
